Apple American Serves Better Backups with ExaGrid’s Disk-based Backup with Data Deduplication Solution

Apple American Group LLC, the largest Applebee’s franchise with 205 restaurants and over $440M in sales, was struggling to back up corporate and restaurant data as rapid growth pushed its tape library beyond capacity. Nightly backups were running into the next workday, tape rotation and offsite restores were slow and labor-intensive, and the IT team needed a scalable alternative to reduce reliance on tape.

Apple American deployed ExaGrid’s disk-based backup appliance with post-process data deduplication (working with their existing Symantec Backup Exec), enabling fast disk-to-disk backups, much smaller storage footprints, and simpler restores. The system cut nightly backup times by 50%, dramatically sped up restores, reduced tape and labor costs, and provided scalable GRID expansion and responsive support to accommodate future data growth.
