Aeroflex Unburdens Itself from Disk Sprawl with ExaGrid

Aeroflex, a global supplier of high‑performance microelectronics and test equipment, was struggling with disk sprawl and retention limits in a disk-to-disk-to-tape backup architecture at its headquarters. Extending the fast, disk-based solution used in their primary datacenter to a smaller office proved too costly, and they needed a more affordable, easy-to-manage alternative that worked with their existing Symantec Backup Exec environment.

Aeroflex deployed ExaGrid’s disk-based backup with native Backup Exec integration and post‑process deduplication, which stores data to a landing zone before deduplicating into retention storage. The solution was quick to install, saved about five hours a week in management, delivered average deduplication ratios of 17:1, provided faster restores and scalable GRID growth, and eliminated the need for continual disk purchases.
