Case Study: ADMIE achieves more accurate load and renewable forecasts with Ex Machina's WeatherXM

A Ex Machina Case Study

Preview of the ADMIE Case Study

The Greek National TSO utilizes WeatherXM for advanced weather analytics

ADMIE, the Greek Independent Power Transmission Operator (IPTO), faced growing challenges in producing accurate day‑ahead load and renewable generation forecasts as solar penetration and market/EMS changes increased the need for high‑resolution weather inputs (e.g., light intensity, cloud cover) beyond traditional temperature/humidity data. To meet new Grid and Exchange Code requirements and EMS specifications, ADMIE ran a tender and selected Ex Machina (in partnership with IBM) to provide its Weather Ex Machina/WeatherXM forecasting service running on IBM Bluemix cloud infrastructure.

Ex Machina deployed WeatherXM (Weather Ex Machina) on Bluemix to deliver unified, hourly, high‑resolution weather analytics and renewable production forecasts that feed ADMIE’s load‑forecasting module. The solution improved the realism and timeliness of weather inputs, better integrated distributed solar into forecasts, and helped ADMIE produce more optimal day‑ahead schedules—reducing the risk and economic cost associated with over‑ or under‑forecasting while enabling compliant participation of renewables in the market.
