A Evrone Case Study
Octoshell, the access control management system for Moscow State University’s Lomonosov supercomputer, needed a faster and more reliable way to manage user access. Before the project, access was handled through paper-based ticketing, which was too slow for real-time scientific work and risky as usage scaled. Evrone was brought in to help solve this challenge.
Evrone built Octoshell as a modular, open-source access control system for supercomputers, using Ruby on Rails and JRuby to support scalability and efficient multitasking. The solution automated user registration, grouping, permissions, and access workflows, and was released under the MIT License. As a result, MSU’s computing center could manage supercomputer resources more effectively, automate complex procedures, and handle growing user demand more reliably.
