Windsor Regional Hospital, the First Canadian Hospital to Deploy Evolv, Screens Thousands of Patients

Windsor Regional Hospital, which operates two busy Emergency Departments serving Windsor and Essex Counties, faced rising workplace violence, increasing incidents of knives and firearms, overcrowding, and the need for a screening solution that would not delay urgent care or exclude people with limited mobility. To address this, the hospital selected Evolv and its Safer Experience System™—including Evolv Express® single‑lane systems and Evolv Insights®—seeking a non‑intrusive, transparent alternative to traditional walkthrough metal detectors.

Evolv worked with WRH and partner Convergint to deploy two Evolv Express units, deliver hands‑on training, and enable analytics via Evolv Insights. The Evolv solution screened nearly 100,000 patients, family members, and visitors, uncovered over a thousand knives (and tens of thousands of metal objects), reduced entrance delays, and contributed to a drop in Emergency Department nurse vacancies from 30% to 2.7%, while boosting staff and patient confidence. Evolv’s systems and reporting also gave WRH measurable data to share with leadership and the Board.
