Southern Ohio Medical Center Implements Security Screening with Evolv That Aims to be Non-Invasive

Southern Ohio Medical Center (SOMC), a 216‑bed hospital in Portsmouth, Ohio, was facing rising concerns about workplace violence and relied on limited, manual screening (random hand‑held metal detectors in the ED and no screening at the main entrance or after‑hours). Seeking a non‑intrusive, EMTALA‑compliant approach that wouldn’t delay patient care, SOMC selected Evolv and its Express® screening system alongside Evolv Insights® analytics to provide continuous, rapid weapons detection.

Evolv deployed two Express single‑lane systems with same‑day setup, onsite training and Evolv Academy support, and enabled real‑time reporting via Evolv Insights. The systems detected weapons on two individuals within the first hour, now screen everyone 24/7 at the ED and main entrance, reduce nuisance secondary searches by pinpointing threat location, and have measurably improved staff, patient and visitor confidence—Insights analytics are used to demonstrate security posture to executive leadership and the board.
