Mercy Hospital Implements Evolv Advanced Threat Detection in Emergency Departments, Aiming to Ameliorate Clinical Staff Safety Concerns

Mercy Health, a 40,000+ employee health system with 600+ points of care, faced rising safety concerns in its Emergency Departments and needed a non‑intrusive, fast weapons‑screening solution that could accommodate gurneys and wheelchairs without slowing patient intake. After evaluating options, Mercy Health selected Evolv and its Evolv Express® screening systems along with Evolv Cortex AI® and Evolv Insights® to create a proactive security layer tailored to ED workflows.

Evolv deployed eight Evolv Express single‑lane systems across Mercy Health campuses with same‑day installation and staff training, integrated into Mercy’s Security Operations Center and analytics processes. The Evolv solution enabled up to 1,000 daily screenings at some EDs, found multiple concealed weapons (including a dozen in one backpack and one case with four firearms and multiple knives), reduced staffing needs by about 65% versus traditional metal detectors (12 guards down to 4.2 per unit) and avoided hiring an estimated 62 additional officers—improving detection accuracy and helping clinical staff feel safer.
