Lee Health Uses Data-Driven Weapons Detection Powered by Evolv Aimed at Helping to Address Provider and Patient Safety in Its Emergency Departments

Lee Health, a Southwest Florida nonprofit health system serving more than 2 million patient contacts annually, faced rising workplace violence and inconsistent, biased weapons screening in its Emergency Departments. To address provider and patient safety and gain real‑time visibility into foot traffic, Lee Health partnered with Evolv and piloted the Evolv Express single‑lane weapons detection systems alongside Evolv Insights analytics and the MyEvolv portal for training and system management.

Evolv deployed six Evolv Express systems in Lee Health’s Emergency Departments, helped develop ConOps and a customized training program, and enabled daily/monthly analytics through Evolv Insights. Since deployment Lee Health has screened over 222,000 people, detected 157 guns and more than 1,000 knives in the second half of 2023, achieved an average 44‑second secondary‑screen clear rate, eliminated screening bias, avoided entrance queues, and now monitors system health and traffic remotely with Evolv.
