Whether it’s Digital Presence or Business Needs, Small Charities Face Technology Struggles

Kids-U is a Dallas nonprofit that has provided after‑school tutoring to over 3,000 low‑income students across eight sites since 2002, yet—like many small charities—lacks the budget to hire designers, developers or pay ongoing hosting fees to build the digital tools needed to track student outcomes and support fundraising.

At Dallas GiveCamp volunteer technologists built a custom student database and website over a weekend (nine developers contributing intensive hours) and Everleap provided free cloud hosting, a solution that would have cost Kids‑U an estimated $40K–$65K. The new system lets staff enter and retrieve outcome data in days instead of months, improving reporting, saving time and money, and keeping resources focused on the charity’s mission.
