How UnityPoint Health Empowers High School Students to Make Safe Choices Regarding Prescripti on Drugs

UnityPoint Health partnered with EVERFI to address the growing opioid and prescription drug misuse crisis affecting the communities it serves. As a health system committed to community wellness, UnityPoint Health wanted a credible, evidence-based way to help high school students make safer choices about prescription medications and support prevention efforts beyond the hospital setting.

Using EVERFI’s Prescription Drug Safety Network, UnityPoint Health delivered digital prevention education to public and private schools across 25 counties in Iowa, with additional schools in Illinois, Nebraska, and South Dakota. The program provided a turnkey, youth-focused resource with local support links, and students who completed the course showed an average 43% knowledge gain.
