Use of mass notification at Azusa Pacific University

Azusa Pacific University, a multi-campus institution in the Los Angeles region with up to 10,000 students and several thousand staff, needed a fast, reliable way to notify broad and changing audiences about emergencies and regional events—everything from power outages and severe weather to police activity and earthquakes. Previous methods (physical campus outreach and public address systems) were slow and didn’t reach everyone, so the university required a device-focused, targeted notification system that could operate across dispersed locations and populations.

APU implemented Everbridge Mass Notification, integrating it with student, HR and email systems to build dynamic audiences and reusable templates, and to push alerts to devices, social media and digital signage. The platform—quick to stand up (notifications can be sent within 20 minutes), stable and scalable—improved speed, accuracy and efficiency of communications, provided detailed reporting on delivery and responses, saved staff time, and became an essential campus-safety tool after nearly a decade of use.
