Reading Health System, a Pennsylvania network serving nearly 30,000 patients and performing about 19,000 surgeries annually across 63 locations, wanted to strengthen cross-departmental emergency communication. With 7,300 staff and 1,000 providers, the system needed reliable 24/7 messaging for code calls, Emergency Operations Plan activations, mass-casualty responses, decontamination incidents and other events that can disrupt normal operations.
Reading Health implemented Everbridge to centralize and automate emergency notifications, using templates, pre-recorded messages and a mobile app to reach staff via multiple channels (phone, radio, pager, etc.). The platform is used in realistic drills and real incidents, improving coordination, testing of emergency plans, and the system’s ability to manage mass casualty, incident and public-health operations.
