Improving Critical Communications in Higher Education with Everbridge

Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), a large private university with roughly 20,000 students, faculty and staff across multiple campuses, needed a reliable, easy-to-use emergency notification system that could quickly reach the entire campus and confirm receipt — even if campus infrastructure was down. The challenge was to streamline alerts so public safety and other departments could notify students, responders and staff immediately without juggling multiple systems.

RIT implemented Everbridge’s unified, web-based critical communications platform, using one-screen sending, multi-modal delivery (text, phone, email, desktop, social, etc.), and integrations with Alertus and ManageBridge. The result: faster, more reliable notifications — tests showed login-to-dispatch in under 30 seconds and device activation in about 20 seconds — effective use during a campus blizzard, targeted residence-hall groups, and improved incident collaboration across departments.
