A Everbridge Case Study
The City of Galveston, a Gulf Coast community of nearly 60,000 with a long history of deadly storms, faced a critical communications challenge after Hurricane Ike in 2008 caused extensive damage and fatalities. City leaders needed a faster, more reliable way to reach residents and businesses during evacuations and other life‑threatening events, replacing an inefficient call‑tree system vulnerable to missed messages and single points of failure.
Galveston implemented the Everbridge emergency notification platform to send multi‑channel alerts (voice and text), confirm delivery and receipt, and mobilize staff in real time. The system allowed officials to rapidly contact thousands with warnings, evacuation orders, road closures and reentry instructions, significantly improving the city’s ability to communicate critical, potentially life‑saving information during hurricanes.
