How LG&E and KU Energy Used Everbridge to Improve Utility Critical Communications

LG&E and KU Energy, two regulated utilities serving roughly 1.2 million customers in Kentucky, needed a reliable, fast way to notify field crews of safety threats and to coordinate with mutual-aid utilities during storms and other critical events. Their legacy pagers and call-tree processes were too slow and fragile for urgent, widespread alerts.

They deployed Everbridge’s unified critical communications and mobile app to send emergency and pull notifications to off-site employees and partners. The system eliminated pagers and call trees, ensured messages go out even if corporate systems are down (so long as cellular service is available), sped responses to customer threats, improved worker safety and operational efficiency, and is being expanded company-wide with plans to notify customers about outages.
