District of Columbia Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency (HSEMA) - Customer Case Study

The District of Columbia Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency (HSEMA) partnered with Everbridge, a critical event management provider, to manage the safety of hundreds of thousands of demonstrators expected for the March For Our Lives rally. HSEMA needed a fast, reliable way to reach attendees with safety, transit, and emergency information before, during, and after the event.

Using Everbridge’s Community Engagement platform, HSEMA created a mobile keyword (text MARCH24 to 888777) promoted via social media and local press to collect opt-ins and push alerts. Within three days more than 15,000 people subscribed; officials sent about two dozen timely texts on closures, transit delays, weather, and reunification sites, and anonymous tips via the system prompted law enforcement responses to an unattended duffel bag and a medic request.
