Case Study: Talbots achieves scalable security and PCI compliance with EventTracker

A EventTracker Case Study

Preview of the Talbots Case Study

Security and Compliance at Talbots

Talbots, a leading multi-channel retailer with 568 stores and nearly $1 billion in 2010 sales, faced the twin challenges of meeting PCI DSS compliance and managing an enormous stream of security events — “close to one billion separate events per day” — across diverse Windows, UNIX, mainframe, POS and network systems. In the pursuit of the highest level of PCI compliance, Talbots evaluated and selected EventTracker, a complete SIEM solution for real-time log management, change/configuration tracking and audit-ready reporting.

EventTracker was deployed to collect and monitor logs from roughly 3,500 systems across 300+ locations (stores, data centers and a call center), centralize POS logs, provide out-of-the-box alerting and enable fast correlation (a year’s worth of POS data in minutes). The EventTracker installation scaled to handle Talbots’ event volume, sped incident investigation, simplified compliance reporting, reduced resolution time and helped prioritize hardware upgrades — delivering measurable operational savings while meeting regulatory requirements.
