Anime Expo, the largest anime convention in North America, struggled with severe entry delays as its ticketing system couldn’t scale to massive crowds, leaving fans in lines that stretched up to six hours and even triggering the #linecon backlash. To improve the attendee experience, Anime Expo partnered with Eventbrite and used its entry management expertise and mobile check-in tools.
Eventbrite implemented on-site Field Ops support, secondary code badge technology, the Eventbrite Organizer app, and reporting tools to streamline scanning and distributed badge pickup. The result was a dramatically smoother process: line time was cut by 83%, overnight campers were processed in about 30 minutes, volunteers could scan four people per minute, and staff gained real-time visibility into check-in progress and fan behavior.
