How Tophatter Improved Stability and Lowered Costs by Migrating to Amazon Redshift RA3

Tophatter, a virtual auction house, needed a more stable and scalable data architecture as its user base and auction activity grew. Using Etleap’s AWS-native ETL platform, Tophatter ingested data from MySQL databases, Amazon S3, and vendor feeds into Amazon Redshift for analytics and materialized BI models, but its DS2 cluster struggled with latency, manual resizing, and frequent on-call incidents.

To address this, Etleap helped Tophatter migrate from Amazon Redshift DS2 to RA3 nodes using elastic resize and the AWS RA3 upgrade program. The migration took under 2 hours and delivered dramatically lower ingestion and modeling latency, near-zero latency incidents requiring on-call response, and the ability to scale compute and storage independently with up to 256 TB of managed storage.
