UK Card Issuer, a top-five UK card issuer, was facing rising card‑not‑present fraud, growing chargebacks and high operational costs. To tackle this, the bank partnered with Ethoca and adopted Ethoca’s global card issuer‑merchant collaboration network (Ethoca Alerts) to rapidly share confirmed fraud data with merchants and stop fraudulent fulfillment.
Using Ethoca, the issuer mitigated 31,304 chargebacks over a 13‑month period and recovered more than £1,228,000 in chargeback processing, 3‑D Secure and low‑value transaction losses. Ethoca Alerts resolved 82% of cases within a day, drove a 25% increase in refund rate, achieved a 55% average mitigation rate and 13% 3DS mitigation—significantly reducing chargeback volumes, operational costs and recoverable losses for the UK Card Issuer.
