A Ethoca Case Study

Preview of the Leading Card Issuer Company Case Study

Leading card issuer uses collaborative tech to reduce chargebacks

Leading Card Issuer Company, a major US-based card issuer, faced rapidly growing chargeback volumes driven by rising digital payments, fraud, billing errors and order issues, which strained operational resources and harmed the cardholder experience. To address this, the issuer turned to Ethoca and its Ethoca Alerts service for an automated, scalable, cross‑subsidiary solution to proactively reduce disputes.

Ethoca implemented Ethoca Alerts to share near‑real‑time confirmed dispute data with merchants via secure SFTP so fraudulent orders could be stopped and refunds issued before chargebacks progressed. Over 12 months Ethoca helped the issuer prevent more than 70,000 chargebacks and resolve $8M in losses ($7M in fraud prevented and $1M in non‑fraud resolved), lowering dispute volumes and easing monthly handling while improving customer experience.
