UTEC University builds a digital twin with ETAP, cutting load flow deviation below 1.5%

UTEC University, a private university in Lima, Peru, faced the challenge of accurately replicating the behavior of a high-voltage 220kV transmission system using only laboratory-scale hardware and limited real-time measurements. Their goal was to create a virtual twin that could predict load flow and short-circuit events with minimal deviation from experimental data, requiring precise tuning of component parameters and reliable SCADA integration.

The university implemented ETAP Real-Time to build this digital twin. Using ETAP's Load Flow and Short Circuit Analysis modules, they followed an iterative process of measurement, monitoring, and simulation refinement. The solution achieved remarkable results, with load flow deviations consistently below 1.5%. ETAP also accurately predicted fault transients, with peak current deviation at 1.37% and steady-state fault current deviation at just 0.58%, validating the platform's effectiveness for creating precise models of transmission networks without extensive field measurements.
