AECOM validates a wastewater treatment plant microgrid across 9 scenarios with ETAP

AECOM, an American multinational infrastructure consulting firm, faced the challenge of ensuring a reliable power supply for a critical wastewater treatment plant microgrid. They needed to validate the system's performance in both grid-connected and islanded modes, evaluating everything from equipment loading and voltage regulation to the coordination of distributed energy resources (DERs) like PV, BESS, CHP, and diesel generators. To address this, they turned to ETAP's power system analysis software.

Using ETAP's simulation modules, including Power Flow, Short Circuit, and Transient Stability analysis, AECOM developed a complete digital twin of the microgrid. The solution confirmed the facility could operate at maximum demand without the utility grid, optimized transformer taps to maintain voltage, and validated DER coordination. ETAP enabled AECOM to ensure no equipment rating violations, providing clear visibility into protection adequacy and robust analysis of mode transfer behavior for a future-ready model.
