A eTakeoff Case Study
Kent Companies, the 19th largest commercial concrete contractor in the U.S., needed a better way to manage growing volumes of electronic plans, overlapping measurements typical in concrete estimating, and tighter revision control. Senior estimator Dan Hoppe and his team moved from digitizers to eTakeoff in 2007, using the Premier version and eTakeoff Import to split, orient and organize multi-page drawings and deliver them to their estimators for takeoff.
By implementing eTakeoff features—Import, layers, the Quantity Worksheet with Audit Mode and Assignment Count, drawing comparison, disconnected points and the Extra Drawing Window—Kent Companies improved measurement accuracy and revision handling. Kent still produces about 350 estimates per year, but with more time for review and multiple options, has gone from roughly 40% electronic plans to nearly all electronic, and eliminated the need for physical digitizers thanks to eTakeoff.
