A eTakeoff Case Study
Construction Specialties, Inc., a global manufacturer of building products, needed to manage competitive, often large-value bids for its Expansion Joint Cover division while handling almost all plans electronically. After McGraw-Hill switched from DodgeView to eTakeoff in April 2012, Construction Specialties faced a migration challenge (different file/database handling) and the broader need to improve collaboration among six estimators, drafters and sales reps who all review and work from the same drawings.
eTakeoff implemented eTakeoff Pro and the migration was “surprisingly smooth” thanks to a similar interface to DodgeView. By moving takeoff into eTakeoff’s common database and providing a free eTakeoff viewer to drafters and sales staff, eTakeoff increased cross-team visibility and improved communication (though not dramatically changing individual productivity). Construction Specialties now uses the Control Panel, Measurement List and hyperlinks extensively, is evaluating eTakeoff Advanced and Excel integration, and reports easier sharing of estimator work and fewer handoff issues as the primary measurable benefits.
