A ESSENTIAL Accessibility Case Study
Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC El Paso), the only health sciences center on the U.S.–Mexico border serving over 600 students, needed to retrofit all digital properties to meet Section 508 and WCAG 2.0 AA requirements to ensure equitable access for students with disabilities. They partnered with ESSENTIAL Accessibility to deploy a comprehensive accessibility program including technical and functional testing, progression testing, PDF remediation, desktop and mobile assistive-technology apps, student-focused channels, and multimedia captioning.
ESSENTIAL Accessibility combined human testing by people with disabilities, remediation workflows, and assistive-tech tools to fix code gaps, make documents and videos accessible, and enable hands-free interaction. As a result, TTUHSC El Paso achieved and can maintain Section 508/WCAG 2.0 AA compliance, enhanced the digital experience for students, faculty and visitors with disabilities, and reinforced its image as an inclusive, disability-friendly institution.
