A ESSENTIAL Accessibility Case Study
The City of Vaughan, serving a diverse population of over 325,000 and operating in 99 languages, set out to become a leader in accessibility across transportation, public spaces and digital services. To make its website inclusive and AODA-compliant, the City partnered with ESSENTIAL Accessibility, placing the ESSENTIAL Accessibility interactive icon on its homepage, offering a free assistive-technology app, and creating a customized channel that highlights programs and services for people with disabilities.
ESSENTIAL Accessibility implemented these tools and accessibility best practices to ensure the City of Vaughan’s website provides reasonable accommodation for visitors with physical disabilities and a more welcoming digital presence for residents and visitors alike. The result is an AODA-compliant, accessible site that supports the City’s goal of leadership in accessibility, serving a large and diverse community and addressing accessibility needs cited in regional and national statistics (e.g., roughly 1 in 7 Ontario residents and 2.1 million Canadians at risk of facing barriers).
