A ESSENTIAL Accessibility Case Study
Ashley HomeStore, a 70‑year‑old furniture retailer with over 700 stores and operations in 36 countries, wanted to make its digital properties welcoming to customers of all abilities. To address this challenge, Ashley HomeStore engaged ESSENTIAL Accessibility to provide a comprehensive accessibility program, including an assistive-technology browser widget and Android app, a Brand Disability Channel microsite, WCAG 2.0 A/AA digital accessibility evaluation and remediation, and PDF remediation for assembly instructions.
ESSENTIAL Accessibility implemented the assistive tools and visible homepage icon linking to the Brand Disability Channel, performed technical and user testing with people with disabilities, delivered code-level fixes, and remediated documents; as a result Ashley HomeStore achieved and can maintain ADA/WCAG compliance to mitigate legal risk, clearly signal a disability‑friendly brand, and provide a barrier‑free online shopping experience for customers (a segment representing roughly 10% of online spending, where 71% may abandon difficult sites).
