A ESRI Case Study
Fulton County in Georgia faced the challenge of locating and inventorying office assets, fulfilling maintenance work orders, and improving security and communication across 295 government facilities in 22 sections. To centralize facility management and support strategic planning, Fulton County adopted the ESRI ArcGIS platform—using tools such as CityEngine, Collector for ArcGIS, and the Esri Building Interior Space Data Model—to replace outdated CAD PDFs and create accurate 2D and 3D interior and exterior building maps.
Using ESRI technology, the county integrated CAD data into its enterprise GIS, built procedural 3D models, imported a detailed interior space data model, and collected georeferenced interior photos to create searchable, GIS-enabled floor plans tied to core systems like BLLIS and SQL Server. The solution improved asset tracking, work-order management, security camera placement and evacuation planning, and internal communication (including an employee directory layer); Fulton County has completed 8 of the 12 county center buildings so far and can now locate assets down to model numbers to better control costs and plan changes.
