US Environmental Protection Agency - Customer Case Study

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) needed to coordinate diverse stakeholders during disasters such as Hurricane Irma to rapidly identify, assess, and mitigate widespread contamination while providing a single, up-to-date view of response targets. To address this, the EPA, with partner Tetra Tech, implemented ESRI’s ArcGIS platform — including ArcGIS Online, Collector for ArcGIS, Survey123, Workforce for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Pro, and ArcGIS Enterprise — to capture and share location-enabled field data and create a common operating picture.

Using ESRI’s solution, field teams could collect and sync data online or offline into a dynamic COP that all partners could view, edit, and task in real time, reducing duplicated work and shifting effort from data processing to analysis and response. The approach produced measurable operational results on response dashboards (example: 1,406 vessels tracked; 94 recoveries in progress, 247 recoveries complete; 141 targets with 119 open and 18 closed) and improved situational awareness and mission-critical decision-making.
