Police Department Modernizes Policing with ArcGIS Enterprise

The St. Petersburg Police Department, responsible for public safety on Florida’s Gulf Coast, struggled for years with text‑based crime data in spreadsheets and paper reports that made spatial analysis and decision‑making difficult. Seeking a modern, interactive system, the department adopted ESRI technology—notably ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Pro—so its ITS and Intelligence‑Led Policing teams could deliver maps and dashboards to more than 560 officers, detectives, and supervisors.

ESRI implemented an enterprise GIS solution (ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Pro with the Crime Analysis toolset, ArcGIS Insights, Operations Dashboard, Web AppBuilder, and Survey123) that provides tailored maps, story maps, and real‑time dashboards with data refreshed 45 minutes before each shift. The platform enabled predictive hotspot analysis (helping officers locate and arrest suspects in a parking‑meter vandalism case), closed feedback loops between analysts and patrol, increased user adoption, and transformed policing operations across the department.
