Case Study: Maricopa County achieves centralized, real-time enterprise GIS and faster emergency response with Esri's ArcGIS Enterprise

Maricopa County Accelerates Innovation with ArcGIS Enterprise

Maricopa County, Arizona — home to more than 4.4 million people and supporting 50+ departments — faced siloed, static GIS data, paper-based field workflows, and no enterprise geodatabase, with data updated only quarterly and a near-loss of server access in 2014 that exposed major operational risk. To modernize its GIS infrastructure, Maricopa County partnered with ESRI and adopted ArcGIS Enterprise along with ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro and other ArcGIS apps.

ESRI helped the county redesign its system onto virtual machines and deploy ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Dashboards, Survey123, Web AppBuilder, Workforce and StoryMaps to consolidate data, enable next-day field updates, and rapidly produce apps. The county now runs about 200 VMs, grew its GIS team from 2 to 18 in months, reduced manual address–parcel matching from a full-day task to about two minutes, moved data visibility from quarterly to next-day, and rolled out COVID-19 and public-facing dashboards—demonstrating clear gains in data accuracy, timeliness, and operational agility from ESRI’s platform.
