A ESRI Case Study
The State of Georgia, confronting more than 60,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases and rapidly rising hospitalizations, needed fast, clear forecasts of ICU beds, ventilators and surge capacity to advise Governor Brian Kemp on whether to expand hospital resources. The Georgia COVID data analytics task force, led by Brig. Gen. Emmanuel Haldopoulos and State geospatial officer Susan Miller, selected ESRI’s ArcGIS Insights to replace fragmented spreadsheets and deliver professional, easily consumable visualizations and forecasts.
Using ArcGIS Insights and an ESRI-published forecast template, the task force combined CHIME, IHME and other models to produce regional forecasts (across 14 coordinating hospital regions), visualize five models simultaneously, and break results down by beds, ICU capacity and ventilators. ESRI’s solution dramatically reduced the data-aggregation and analysis burden that had previously taken Haldopoulos half a day, enabled state leaders to make faster, data-driven surge-capacity decisions, and earned strong positive feedback for improving preparedness and helping save lives.
