A Esper Case Study
JLT, a rugged computing OEM serving logistics, transportation, manufacturing, energy, and agriculture customers, wanted to bring Android to its Intel x86 vehicle-mounted tablets after more than a year of failed attempts with other Android builds. The company needed a commercial-ready Android OS with support for device button remapping, remote provisioning, battery controls, kiosk mode, geofencing, over-the-air updates, and sensor drivers. Esper provided Esper Foundation for Android for JLT’s JLT6012 and JLT1214P devices.
Esper’s solution worked out of the box on JLT’s x86 hardware and gave JLT access to cloud-based lifecycle management tools, APIs, and SDKs for deploying and managing apps and OS updates. JLT completed a successful proof of concept on 200 devices, with plans to expand to 1,000 more, and reported benefits including 50% better battery life and 30% lower total cost of ownership. Esper also enabled JLT to offer a full Android experience on existing devices without requiring customers to buy new hardware.
