Verizon’s Enterprise Geospatial Application (VEGA) was developed to support FiOS network rollout by providing a ubiquitous, pure web-based tool for Outside Plant (OSP) planning. The main challenge was to boost efficiency and eliminate departmental “stovepipes” by integrating CAD/GIS and business processes into a single, role-based, scalable application that supports CAD-style editing in a browser and a common enterprise database.

Using eSpatial’s iSMART platform, Verizon built VEGA — a browser-delivered GIS/CAD application backed by a central Oracle database, role-based access, and replication across sites. The solution streamlined planning and construction workflows, reduced client licenses and maintenance overhead (no client installs), sped up and de-risked network rollouts, increased cross-department visibility of geospatial data, and earned the Verizon GITA Innovator Award in 2008.
