A eSpatial Case Study
Ireland’s Department of Agriculture, Food & Fisheries (DAF), a central government body of 4,500+ staff serving over 300,000 customers, needed to modernise its Single Payment Scheme (SPS) processing by integrating application-form data with geospatial information. Previously DAF relied on separate GIS and mainframe systems that required repetitive manual work and ad-hoc interfaces; the new solution had to meet EU regulations, be web-enabled, leverage existing staff skills, and be delivered within a single payment cycle.
DAF chose eSpatial’s iMAP, built on the iSMART platform and Oracle spatial technology, to provide a web-based, standards-driven integration of business and spatial data. The system now supports about €1.5 billion in direct payments, gives staff and farmers internet access, centralises spatial data for faster validation and reporting, improves regional efficiency, preserves archives, and won an award for Government-to-Business innovation.
