A Esker Case Study
The Lane Company, a $90 million furniture manufacturer selling through Furniture Brands International’s 13,000 retail dealers, faced slow, paper-based order processing: dealers faxed up to 1,000 pages daily, mailroom staff hand-carried faxes to order entry and back, and confirmations could take a week or more. Online ordering wasn’t viable for many smaller dealers, so Lane needed a high-volume fax solution that integrated with its IBM mainframe and LAN.
Lane deployed Esker Fax to automate inbound/outbound routing, tie a toll-free number to multiple fax lines, deliver faxes directly to order-entry desktops (with split-screen entry), and use Forms Merge and Advanced Inbound Routing for polished confirmations and smart routing. The result: end-to-end processing shrank from as long as a week to as little as an hour, paper handling was eliminated, documents are archived automatically, and customer communication and order throughput improved significantly.
