Reinventing Fax Delivery With Esker on Demand

Microsoft faced a major document-delivery problem after upgrading SAP: custom fax commands in R/3-generated invoices and purchase orders were PostScript-encoded and no longer parsed by their proprietary fax server, causing failed deliveries, missing notifications and high long-distance charges from centralized faxing. The company needed an open, standards-based, SAP-certified solution that ran on Windows, required minimal development, and eliminated the need to host telephony hardware.

Esker on Demand provided an SAP-certified integration with a local Esker DeliveryWare server that used a Rules Engine to parse existing SAP commands, send fax traffic securely to Esker’s hosted delivery platform, and return status updates into SAP and a SQL status database. The change was transparent to users, required little or no SAP-side development, eliminated proprietary hardware, cut per-page telephony costs, and delivered payback in about a year with projected annual savings of $30,000.
