Piedmont Behavioral Healthcare (PBH) is the Local Management Entity for mental health, developmental disability and substance abuse services across five North Carolina counties, providing 24/7 screening and referral services. PBH’s teleworkers needed a reliable, HIPAA‑compliant fax‑from‑the‑desktop solution to support round‑the‑clock hospital placement authorizations (200–300 documents/week); previous desktop faxing failed because it wouldn’t route to shared mailboxes and per‑fax charges from other vendors were unacceptable.

PBH implemented an Esker Fax bundle (via CDW) integrated with Microsoft Exchange—adding PDF conversion, an Outlook LanFax client, Universal Mail Connector and advanced inbound routing—to route inbound faxes to three unit mailboxes that staff share. The installation and ongoing support were praised as excellent, the Outlook integration made desktop faxing easy for teleworkers, efficiency improved and prior routing problems were resolved; PBH plans to extend Esker Fax across its enterprise content management project.
