MEMC, a global manufacturer of wafers and related products for the semiconductor and solar industries, was handling hundreds of daily sales orders with a highly manual process. Its 30 customer service representatives were spending the equivalent of one full-time employee (nearly 40 hours a week) keying orders from fax, email and EDI into SAP, which created errors, long order‑acknowledgement times and a “black hole” in order-entry visibility.
