A Esker Case Study
Union Bank of California, one of the 25 largest full‑service commercial banks with 397 branches and main processing centers in Monterey Park, San Diego and Oakland, processes 8,000–10,000 returned checks daily. Bound by SLAs to notify subscribing clients by 9:00 a.m. the next day, the bank faced a three‑hour window (6–9 a.m.) to produce and send some 200–300 multi‑page faxes each morning; manual photocopying, scanning and dialing made the process slow, error‑prone and risky.
To solve this, Union Bank deployed Esker DeliveryWare (with contingency in San Diego), integrating it with existing check‑imaging systems and an IBM 9672 data feed to automatically build cover pages and transmit electronic faxes. The automation eliminated manual handling, ensured reliable delivery before 9:00 a.m., met SLAs, cut time and costs, improved customer communications, and created a path to future email delivery—all backed by strong vendor support.
