Zovio, an education technology services company, sought to strengthen its data governance to increase consistency and confidence in operational, financial and student‑lifecycle reporting and to meet regulatory and business transformation needs. After evaluating options, Zovio selected erwin’s solutions—including erwin Data Intelligence by Quest and erwin Data Modeler—to operationalize a governance framework and support metadata management, data lineage, quality and reference data management.

erwin implemented the erwin Data Intelligence Suite with Smart Data Connectors to automatically scan metadata, refresh the data catalog and generate source‑to‑target mappings and end‑to‑end lineage (including for Tableau BI and six other tools: SSRS, SSAS, PBI, SSIS, SQL and Azure Data Factory). As a result, Zovio now governs key data elements across critical reports, uses a common business glossary to standardize definitions, performs sensitive data discovery for GDPR/CCPA, and provides efficient self‑service discovery—reducing manual effort, accelerating projects and improving reporting confidence with metrics shared via a metadata scorecard.
