Petco harnesses the power of data with erwin® Data Intelligence by Quest®

Petco, a pet health and wellness company operating across the United States, Mexico and Puerto Rico with 27,000 employees, needed to give data scientists and business analysts self‑service access to trusted data while maintaining consistent governance, metric definitions and security. To address this, Petco selected erwin and its erwin Data Intelligence suite (including erwin Data Catalog, erwin Data Literacy and erwin Smart/Standard Data Connectors) to catalog metadata, define business metrics and enforce data use guardrails.

With erwin, Petco automatically harvested metadata into a searchable data dictionary, built a governed business glossary, visualized end‑to‑end data lineage (including Python/Snowflake transformations) and pulled reporting metrics into the glossary via Smart Data Connectors. The initiative established a governance framework that enabled self‑service analytics, reduced IT queries, sped analyst productivity, fostered data literacy through “data champions,” and delivered documented lineage and a single erwin Business User Portal for ongoing collaboration and trusted analytics.
