Case Study: E.ON achieves data-driven sustainable energy transformation and operational efficiency with erwin by Quest

A erwin Case Study

Preview of the E.ON Case Study

E.ON's journey to sustainable energy

E.ON, the Germany-based energy provider with 72,000 employees and 51 million customers, faced a highly heterogeneous data landscape spanning 13 countries, one million smart meters and 900,000 renewable plants. To support its digital transformation, sustainability goals and regulatory compliance, E.ON needed better metadata management, data governance and faster access to trusted data—so it selected erwin by Quest, initially deploying erwin Data Intelligence and later adding erwin Data Modeler.

Using erwin, E.ON implemented an automated metadata-driven data catalog, lineage and impact analysis, and standardized business metrics to enable data-centric processes and faster time-to-data. The deployment delivered measurable impact: more than €2 million in identified business value after 24 months, over 600 users trained, 44 data domains and 550 business terms defined, connectivity across 67 systems in four countries, an estimated 30% savings on external data management costs, a 50% reduction in time spent on data discovery, and several million euros in additional revenue.
