Gene Whitaker Inc, a Wilbur, Oregon–based fleet of 45 log trucks, needed a way to foster a safety-first culture by ranking drivers on driving behavior, rewarding improvements, identifying training needs, lowering fuel costs, and potentially reducing insurance premiums. To address this, the company turned to EROAD, implementing EROAD’s ELD and fleet tracking together with the EROAD Leaderboard.

Using the EROAD ELD, fleet tracking and Leaderboard to monitor speeding, hard braking and rapid acceleration, Gene Whitaker Inc ranked drivers, ran a 5‑Star incentive program (monthly gift-card drawing) and targeted coaching. EROAD’s solution drove measurable results: unsafe events fell from about 65 per 100 miles to a low of 13 per 100 miles, fuel use and costs declined, and the insurer is now reviewing the fleet for possible premium discounts.
