A Ericsson Case Study
WIND Hellas, Greece’s third-largest mobile operator, was facing a saturated market, declining ARPU, and growing pressure to modernize its prepaid operations and prepare for convergence. The company needed a single, convergent-ready business support system to consolidate multiple platforms, reduce capex and opex, and support new offers such as community charging, loyalty schemes, and converged services. Ericsson was selected to help with this transformation, including migration to a more unified charging and billing environment.
Ericsson implemented an end-to-end systems integration project covering core, mediation, provisioning, and charging, linking systems around BSCS and Charging System 4 to create a single subscription and charging platform. The migration covered 4 million prepaid and hybrid customers and 1 million postpaid users, with no interruption to service and no revenue loss. WIND Hellas gained a more efficient, convergence-ready system, launched new prepaid services such as the WIND card and real-time usage information, and reported reduced prepaid churn and a stabilizing market position.
