Case Study: The Associated Press achieves global HD news distribution with Ericsson

The Associated Press upgrades its infrastructure to support the distribution of HD news content

The Associated Press (AP) needed to upgrade its video infrastructure to high definition while keeping global news delivery fast, flexible, and future-proof. To support this transition, Ericsson supplied satellite newsgathering compression equipment, including the Ericsson AVP 3000 Voyager encoder and Ericsson RX8200 Advanced Modular Receiver.

With Ericsson’s solution, AP could compress and distribute HD news footage efficiently, delivering better picture quality at a low data rate even for standard-definition customers. The rollout went live in around 30 locations worldwide, helped AP become the first news agency to go all-HD on a global scale, and set a benchmark for others in the industry.
