Case Study: Scania achieves predictable autonomous transport with Ericsson 5G Standalone and Telia

A Ericsson Case Study

Telia and Scania test 5G Standalone on a 5G transport corridor with Ericsson

Telia, a telecommunications provider, and Scania, a global truck manufacturer, collaborated with vendor Ericsson to address the challenge of ensuring predictable and reliable connectivity for autonomous transport operations on public roads. Autonomous vehicles require continuous, real-time communication for safe operation, which traditional best-effort networks could not guarantee, especially under congestion.

Ericsson implemented its 5G Standalone and network slicing capabilities via Telia's network to create a dedicated transport corridor in Sweden. This solution provided the deterministic and resilient connectivity needed for real-time data and video transmission. The results included more reliable fleet operations, better decision-making, and increased confidence for Scania in scaling autonomous solutions, while also demonstrating a new commercial enterprise offering for Telia.
