Case Study: Tele2 Croatia achieves scalable, cost-efficient mobile broadband with Ericsson IP RAN over Ethernet backhaul

A Ericsson Case Study

Preview of the Tele2 Case Study

Tele2 Croatia implements a cost saving solution to increase its network capabilities and deliver quality mobile broadband services

Tele2 Croatia, part of the Tele2 Group, needed a scalable and cost-efficient way to expand its mobile broadband offering while maintaining competitive pricing and improving network performance. Ericsson helped address this challenge with an all-IP transport approach for its HSPA network, using IP RAN over Ethernet backhaul to support the launch of mobile broadband.

Ericsson implemented a complete end-to-end IP RAN solution, including MINI-LINK TN microwave and OMS 1410 optical transport equipment, and upgraded base stations with simple hardware installation. The result was a faster, more efficient network with lower total cost of ownership, simpler operations, and better scalability; Tele2 Croatia launched mobile broadband in Q3 2008 and added 62,000 new subscribers in Q1 2009, up 35% year over year.
