SK Telecom, a leading South Korean telecom operator and long-time Ericsson customer, was working to advance its 5G strategy in one of the world’s most advanced mobile markets. The company needed to validate key next-generation capabilities, including new radio access technology, network slicing, NFV, software-defined infrastructure, and distributed cloud, to prepare for commercial 5G services.

Ericsson supported SK Telecom through joint 5G trials focused on core and radio access technology development. The collaboration included testing Ericsson 5G radio prototypes in the millimeter wave band, which achieved throughput of 27Gbps, marking a significant milestone and demonstrating the potential for high-speed 5G use cases.
